We are a friendly, family-run coffee shop which opened in 1996 by Helen Renton, in a handsome former Victorian town house, looking down Rothbury high street from its elevated position.
Elm Tree has just been newly refurbished & offers a delightfully unfussy and relaxed atmosphere, in which to enjoy our good honest and renowned home cooking where everything is fresh and wholesome. All the scones, cakes and tray bakes are lovingly made by hand, as well as, the infamous Lemon Meringue Pie & fresh fruit Pavlova's. Light lunches are freshly made to order you can chose from a variety of sandwiches, toasted sandwiches which are all made using freshly baked bread from the local village bakeries, paninis, jacket potatoes, home-made quiche plus much more and of course our daily specials.
We are open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm (until 4pm off season) and we are fully accessible to wheel chairs. (The only time we close is from Christmas Eve for approximately 2 weeks.)
We also stock local Honey from Chain Bridge Honey Farm near Berwick and local Jam, Chutney & marmalade from Oxford Farm near Berwick they are both delicious and you will be able to sample the jam whilst enjoying one of our freshly baked scones or the chutney in one of our sandwiches. Elm Tree features in 2 publications the Teapot Trail Guides and Hidden Places of England Guide Book.
So why not after a look around the shops, a walk around the village or a breath of fresh air in the surrounding countryside make Elm Tree the place to take a break where Helen, her family and their staff are always friendly, willing and ready to help make it a pleasurable experience for you and one you will return to time and time again.
