Opposite the main entrance to the famous Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, you will find the amazing Bailiffgate Museum. Full of extraordinary information, stunning details, and awesome archive of commissioned films: You can really get a hands on feel for history in the North of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
For the first time in Alnwick, you will be able to experience the true history of the area through exhibitions, workshops, activities and special events, which appeal to all ages. Films have been special commissioned to bring the feeling of Northumberland and the Borders to life. Get really hands on with the six appealing themes in the museum.
Take a walk through the magnificent and sometimes violent past of this intrepid county. See how the area has changed size, and grown in importance in the Elizabethan times. Trade, industry, and farming have always been of great importance to the area: Look at local fishing, agriculture and the many castles dotted strategically along the coastline.
Get into the spirit of the region by trying on a suit of armour, or squeezing into a Northumbrian coalmine: In fact there's lots for all the family to see and do.
The museum is open all week from Easter till October, then from November till Easter it's open all week except Monday's. It is closed throughout the Christmas holidays from the 22nd of December till the 6th of January.
Bailiffgate is easy to get to from the A1, and there is plenty of long stay parking available in close proximity to the museum. There is wheelchair and pushchair access to all areas, and lifts to all floors. There are both standard and fully accessible toilets, plus baby changing facilities. Guide dogs are always welcome, and large print information is available from the reception.
